Wood-fired pizza suits barn and marquee weddings because it supports a relaxed service and keeps the cooking outside the main guest space. Success depends on practical planning: supplier access, stable ground, a safe working area, weather cover, lighting and a short route to guests.
Confirm outside catering is permitted
Some venues work only with approved suppliers or charge for external caterers. Ask before paying a deposit and find out which documents the venue needs. A dry-hire venue may give you more freedom but also leave more coordination to the couple.
Map the service route
The closest road is not always the best setup position. Walk the actual route from the vehicle entrance to the intended cooking area and from there to the marquee or barn doors.
Look for narrow gates, low branches, soft verges, steep slopes and places where guest cars will later park. Send a short video if the route is difficult to describe.
Plan around the structure
A mobile oven should not be moved into an enclosed barn or marquee without explicit supplier and venue approval. Agree a suitable outside position and a handover point that keeps guests connected to the celebration.
For marquees, consider guy ropes, service entrances and generator or cable routes. For barns, check courtyards, ventilation rules and protected historic surfaces.
Prepare for the ground and weather
Hardstanding gives the most reliable vehicle and working surface. If the plan depends on grass, ask what happens after several days of rain and whether the venue has a suitable alternative.
Guests also need shelter while collecting food. Read our guide to outdoor pizza catering in the rain.
Add lighting
An evening setup may begin in daylight and finish in darkness. The working area, queue and route back to tables all need appropriate light. Decorative festoon lighting may not be enough for safe food preparation and guest movement.
Coordinate other suppliers
Food trucks, bars, toilets, generators, bands and photographers can all need the same service route. Put positions on one site plan and confirm arrival times so one supplier does not block another.
Choose the serving moment
Pizza can be the main wedding breakfast with sides and desserts, or evening food after the first dance. Barn acoustics and marquee layouts make announcements important: guests may not see that service has opened.
